Columbia Program for Human-Guided Machine Adaptation in collaboration with the U.S. Army Research Laboratory

June 20, 2022

The DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory (ARL) is funding a pilot program at Columbia University to develop and evaluate new approaches for Human-Guided Machine Adaptation.  One of the thrusts of the program is to bring together researchers who have deep knowledge in AI/ML/Robotics with those who have expertise in human cognition, social interaction and decision making. The goal is to have these multi-disciplinary research groups develop new approaches that combine our understanding of human intelligence and social interaction with the state-of-the art methods and theories of machine intelligence and adaption.  In addition to the innovative research coming from these multidisciplinary teams, the program looks to train next generation investigators to understand both the human element and the machine/AI element as they relate to development of  human-machine teaming.
