Shruti Kumar

PhD student

Shruti is a fourth year PhD student in the LIINC Lab. Her research focuses on computationally modeling the latent cognitive processes and neurophysiological mechanisms (such as arousal modulation and resistance to task initiation) that underlie human learning and decision-making. Shruti graduated from the University of Texas at Austin (Hook Em 🤘! ) in 2021 with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering where she worked with the Santacruz Lab on closed-loop neuromodulation in non-human primates. Before joining Columbia, Shruti was a Journeyman Fellow with the Army Research Lab where she collaborated with universities such as Stanford, Harvard, and Northwestern to develop multimodal models of human decision-making paradigms. Outside of the lab, Shruti enjoys reading lit-fic novels, cooking up new things in the kitchen, baking extravagant cakes for her friends, long walks through central park, and pickleball at the Riverside Courts.
