Our Work Won Best Paper Award at the MICCAI FAIR 2022 Workshop

Dr. Kaveri A. Thakoor (PhD student/postdoc alum of LIINC who recently started as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at CUMC) just earned Best Paper Award at the MICCAI FAIR 2022 workshop in Singapore yesterday! 

Her paper, entitled "Enhancing Portable OCT Image Quality via GANs for AI-Based Eye Disease Detection", focuses on the use of generative adversarial networks to super-resolve and translate low-cost, portable Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) data (the gold standard for eye disease diagnosis) toward the quality of high-cost, commercial OCT data in order to enable enhanced downstream AI-based eye disease classification even when high-quality data or medical expertise may not be present, as in resource diverse settings.  By showing proof-of-principle AI-based eye disease detection even from low-cost, p-OCT data, Thakoor hopes to facilitate future work toward embedding AI into p-OCT devices, making such technology accessible to a broader population.  The MICCAI FAIR Best Paper Award consists of an NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti GPU, which Thakoor aims to use toward prototyping an AI-embedded p-OCT device in the not-too-distant future!
